Even with a few control fixes, it's hard to shake the feeling that these kinds of arcade games simply aren't going to thrive on mobile without a complete overhaul - they were designed with real, physical controls in mind, and worked on the assumption that players would be able to see all of the screen all of the time, not have portions of it covered by thumbs. Metal Slug 3 certainly manages to deliver solid nostalgia to those that were into the series, but it had a hard time making the trip over to mobile. Metal Slug 3 doesn't handle multitasking particularly well, as I found the game crashed regularly when switching over to something else. A high score list that allows for three letter names.

The series went from WWII cartoonish fights to a more edgy. An over-the-top military plot that feels like it was born out of an 80s action flick. Its probably the best Metal Slug game out there, not only because its more polished and detailed but also because of its innovation. Metal Slug 3, the sequel to 2, was originally released in 2000. Sound effects, voice clips, and the soundtrack are all high quality while still maintaining the arcade vibe. Theres Light at the End of the Carpal Tunnel. Players can chose one of four characters, each with their own unique flavor.

Video options are actually pretty extensive, allowing players to switch between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios, or turn on scanlines for that old-school CRT TV feel. Metal Slug 3 doesn't really change that much from the previous games, but there're lots and lots of interesting smaller scale additions that come together to make an almost a perfect game it's. There are a million side-scrolling shooters out there. Kill all the enemies as you make your way to the end of. With HAMSTER on hand, this is one of many classic Neo Geo games to hit the Nintendo Switch eShop. Despite it being a straight up port of a four-year-old game, Metal Slug 3 still a complete blast to play, and stranger still, its hard to explain just how thats possible. For those not initiated in the Metal Slug universe, it’s a series of highly polished Run ‘n Gun shooters from SNK. The menu system uses polished high-res graphics, though it's ultimately very simple with little flash. Metal Slug 3 is all about shooting stuff before it shoots you - a game thats true to its retro roots - but strangely enough, it doesnt show its age in its gameplay. Pretty much every part of the art style is over the top and exaggerated, resulting in goofy-looking tanks, characters, and bad guys, which is great a game that takes itself too seriously is a big turn-off. Metal Slug 3's graphics are true to the game's Neo-Geo roots, complete with smoothly-animated pixel art.
